Year 824, Early Spring
Alchemic Laboratory, South Tinker Outpost
- Melvin -
Anyon asked me to write up a report on everyone that works in the Alchemic Laboratory. There are a few regulars and some people come in for specific things, but for the most part it's just me and Yalin. I'll start with her.
Yalin has a number of strange properties that she has asked me not to talk too much about. The most obvious is her shifting nature: Yalin responds to five different names and each of those names draws out not just a different personality, but different hair and eye colors. Some people comment on how it seems like multiple people dwell within her body, but most don't realize just how correct they are. Five different spirits of different colors dwell within her body, and only one of them looks like most people around.
Sometimes Merdiwen comes by and separates those spirits into different bodies. He likes to put them in dolls suited to their purpose and seems to always match up the color of the spirit with the body. Somehow Brianna ends up breaking her body no matter what it's made out of, and Sherry is overwhelmingly oppressive with her demeanor. Lythina is quiet and observant, and Fauna likes gardening. Mekele keeps her main body most of the time. When he's not around Yalin is constantly experimenting with objects and changes, and lately she's taken up trying to replicate those bodies for herself.
When they all get together as separate people they can make great things, like this laboratory. Her skill is much higher than her age would suggest, and I intend to classify that according to the quality scale of the Slime-Craft Guild. Each of Yalin's personalities seem to have different capabilities, as well as augmentations and methods of interacting that are unusual. This is one person, not five, so the classification is kind of messy...
As Yalin would say, let's try our best and not worry about the results until the end.

Yalin is capable of augmenting herself. Each personality has a different style of augmentation, and as a combined body she can switch between augmentations at will.
Yalin | Mekele, Augmentation: Alchemy
- This version summons things outside of herself, like moving sections of the ground or converting rock into another rock. The augmentation is not personal and maps very well onto the alchemist profession's modified core casting.
Yalin | Fauna, Augmentation: None
- Fauna insists that she is capable of augmentation in some capacity but refuses to demonstrate. She says it has something to do with alchemy and life but refuses to elaborate.
Yalin | Brianna, Augmentation: Dragoness
- Brianna can draw out the potential red-and-yellow cores found deep underground in hot areas. This technique has a side effect of red mist-like clouds exuding out of her body from her shoulders, arms, and above her eyes. Some of the patterns in the clouds look like a dragon.
- Brianna insists she took inspiration from the slime that I wear. I can't see the resemblence.
Yalin | Brianna, Augmented Stats
- Might: Augmented - Very Strong
- Agility: Augmented - Very Fast
- Skill: Average, High Combat
- Social: Nonexistant
- Mind: Average
- Will: Unbreakable
Yalin | Sherry, Augmentation: Secret
- You don't want to know.
Yalin | Lythina, Augmentation: Automatic
- Lythina is a personality that only comes out naturally when things are dire. She has far more raw strength than the others and the augmentation appears to be both automatic and permanent.
- Lythina can fly freely. She resembles a valkyrie both in appearance and manners.
Yalin | Lythina, Permanent Stats
- Might: Boulder
- Agility: Flight
- Skill: Average
- Social: Mute
- Mind: Oppressive
- Will: Immeasurable
Military
- Weapon Skills:
-- Mekele doesn't like fighting, but when pressed she uses a simple wooden cylinder that she shoves gel balls into. Those balls have varying effects, most of which have a transformative nature.
-- Brianna has a pair of claws that she punches things with. The knuckles are loaded with smaller balls, but they mostly burst outward for heavier hits.
-- Sherry and Fauna don't fight. Fauna will run away from a battlefield and Sherry will run towards it... and you don't want to be on the other end of that
-- Lythina is capable of making the phrase "eating your own foot" happen with her bare hands. She also uses a spear.
- Athletic Abilities: Yalin can't move very fast or jump very high unless she's augmented. Brianna can enhance her legs to run very fast, but Lythina can do anything.
- Discipline: Varies a lot
> Combat Sense: Poor. Yalin is a crafter, not a fighter. Even Brianna has little sense for combat.
> Combat Knowledge: Poor
- Best Role: Crafting military bases, except for Lythina.
Wanderer and Commerce
- Camping Skills: She changes the area she's sleeping in to be easier to work with
- Fire Skills: Some of the balls she carries can start fire
- Hunting, Fishing, or Gathering Prowess: Fauna seems to know the right plants and mushrooms to eat.
> Navigation Skills: Yalin seems to know her way around buildings better than the outside world. She's likely to get lost in unfamiliar areas.
> Land Knowledge: The village is well known, but she's spent her entire life here
- Best Role: Shopkeeper!
Farming
- Weather Prediction: Yalin can make clouds. She can't smell when it's going to rain
- Plant Knowledge: She knows which nearby plants are edible and which can be made into paper
- Mushroomology: Some of the local mushrooms can be made into delicious tea. The best one she calls Chaga.
- Animal Husbandry: Yalin isn't interested in this
- Nature Sense: She knows well enough to get by
> Notable Plants Farmed: Moss
> Notable Animals Ranched: None
> Notable Fungus Grown: None
- Best Role: Gatherer
Scribe
- Attention to Detail: Varies a lot. Anywhere from average to perfect depending on which Yalin is in control.
- Writing:
-- Mekele spends a lot of time writing up notes, experiments, and blueprints. She likes to show those off to anyone who would be interested
-- Fauna keeps a journal on how all of her plants are doing. The journal is made of wood and moss.
-- Brianna refuses to write anything
-- Sherry has a deep interest in religion and likes to write up verses
- Oration: She can sing somewhat. Mekele knows all the folk songs from her shop and Sherry knows all the hymns from the church
- Bookmaking: Very High
- Elemental Application: Alchemy Teacher, Heavy Earth bias
- Elemental Recognition: Perfect
- Best Role: Bookmaker
Artisan
- Tool Skill: Yalin knows how to use a lot of tools but doesn't have a lot of strength for hammers or swords. She also knows how to make a lot of tools, but tries to use alchemy wherever she can to make them instead of smithing or fine skills like whittling.
- Material Knowledge: Yalin has detailed knowledge on dirt, stone, and wood. She knows how to work soft metals like copper or weak brass and how to make quills out of feathers. She also knows how to extract the core of a slime and store that as a ball of gel.
- Level of Detail: Varies a lot. At least average quality, at most flawless.
- Crafting Speed: Fast. Consistent despite the differences in quality
> Limits to Skill: As an alchemist, the materials she works with are the most important. Her level of knowledge with the material or the outcome is a close second
> Best Crafts: Gel Balls
- Best Role: Simple Alchemic Crafter
Engineer
- Building Part Skill: Parts are sort of like small tools. As long as she doesn't have to use them, she can make almost anything into anything else given enough time, cores, and material
- Finished Structures: Stable and sound
- Material Proficiency: High in dirt, stone, and wood. Moderate to low in others
- Spatial Awareness: She seems to focus on one thing at a time and unintentionally ignores others. She does seem to know where everything is all the time though... I’m not sure how to rank this
> Limits to Building Size: Yalin thinks she could build something six stories tall and as wide as a lake.
> Structural Integrity: Stable and sound
> Best Building: Alchemic Laboratory
- Best Role: Alchaneer
Artisan Test
The Slime-Craft Guild aims to measure both the fine crafting ability of a person and the large scale construct of buildings. The motto of artisans for measuring skill is "Something personal, something large, something fine, and something complete". Yalin has done this a few times, but not for me. When she asked what I wanted, I told her I wanted to be able to use what she made.
The standard tool test is three hours for four items. One of these items must be a tool and one must be a finished item. What is made is up to the crafter and the one making the request. In that amount of time, this is what she made.
Personal and Large Tools: Gel Spring
Description: This wooden tube somewhat resembles an ale flask. It's a hollow cylinder of wood held together with thick gel and covered to be smooth and round inside and out. It has two straps to mount to an object like the underside of your arm, a spring and a round board in the bottom for launching its contents, a lid to keep the contents inside, and a small window so you can see inside.
Material: Gel-bonded wood with leather straps.
Finish: Smooth, coated in waxy gel. Plain details
Quality: Standard
Notes: This is a cylinder built for one purpose: throwing slime around! I'm sure I can find a use for it somewhere. She also made two of them
Finished Item: Ball Pile
Description: A slime was harvested and its gel was melted down. The gel was poured and casted into balls, then using some kind of apparatus the core was drained of its color and put into the gel. The process is time consuming, but works automatically
Material: Solid gel
Finish: Rough
Quality: Crude
Notes: The slime was mimicking a patch of grass. If a creature is hit with one of these balls they feel invigorated and full of life.
Fine Item: Leather Bag
Description: A custom leather bag was created to store the pile of balls. It was stitched together using a large bone needle.
Material: Leather, Grass
Finish: Smooth, Stamped
Quality: Poor
Notes: The bag doesn't look like it's going to fall apart. It's obviously made in haste and Yalin apologized for the poor workmanship, claiming she wasn't great at working leather and was running out of time.
Assessment
Yalin’s overall skill level with creating tools is that of an apprentice. She is capable of creating unique tools that she knows at a decent rate, but lacks broad knowledge and fine skill in the crafting process. The items she makes are plain and lack details, but do exactly what they should do. Give her time; she’ll grow into a place that makes interesting and unique things in the future.
Engineering Test
The standard building test is a bit more open than the tool test. Everyone is given a table, a pile of materials, and a place to draw up blueprints. Some people will make a wall, others will create a unique thing that demonstrates a property of the material, still others will spend the entire time drawing up an elaborate plan for a house or gardens or a water reservoir.
"Given the pile of things in front of you, make something interesting" is what Selena told me. When I repeated the task to Yalin, she shook her head, handed me a hammer, and told me to make it indestructible while she made a wall. This is what she made:
Structure: Earthen Spiked Reinforcement
Description: A chest-high fence made of what appears to be spiked logs. It is pointed outward regularly with the logs alternating every other direction and tied together with rope. Despite the appearance, the logs are a combination of wood and dirt. The wood has dirt built into every nook and cranny in a way that looks seamless, like the two were always meant to be together. The same is true of the dirt-filled rope.
Building Method:
- Logs are soaked in hot mud. The mud must be made of dirt and slime, not water. The process for creating these earthen logs takes half an hour to fully creep inside the logs and another two hours to set.
- Earthen Rope is made in a similar manner, but takes much less time. A few minutes on both ends is all that's necessary
- The pieces can be placed together in any order. They do not stick together until an hour into the drying time.
Quality: Excellent. The method for putting together this object is well practiced.
Materials: Dirt, Wood, Rope
Durability: Very High. The wooden material is resistant to saws and takes a very long time to cut, as bits of the material end up getting caught and dulling the blade. The logs are wrapped with rope and the entire material sets together as one piece. They will come apart in pieces if broken apart, but only after considerable effort.
Despite my best effort, the walls are more durable than the hammer.
Assessment
Yalin’s overall skill with problem solving and creating structures is proficient. She has some rather in-depth knowledge when it comes to common materials like wood and dirt. The structure she made has a purpose that is both specific to puncturing slimes and general to defending an area. The amount of wall she made in three hours is quite a bit, as if she has the process down to a flawless art.
Yalin is a natural builder of strong structures using mundane materials. I would be glad for her to build anything from a hovel to a tower in the sky.
Yalin is an interesting young woman. She may only be fifteen years old, but last year she managed to create an entire multi story laboratory from the ground up out of nothing more than dirt, wood, and grass. Anything and everything is researched and experimented with over here. People come from all around just to see her work and, well, both the monumental features and failures she has made. It seems like she's working with more raw potential than she has skill right now. Where men are good at lifting things, women are good with magic.
Let's see how many time she blows up the ground again.
